At UBS, we believe that our people should share in our success, and that individual achievement should be recognised and incentives provided so that employees continue to excel. Also, we aim to develop a stronger alignment between employee, management and shareholder interests through a range of stock ownership plans. Our compensation mix comprises base salary plus annual incentive compensation awards, which are discretionary. Individual incentives are based on a number of factors; among them are individual performance relative to expectations or objectives set by the line manager, and the performance of the employee's own business area and firm as a whole relative to their financial and non-financial objectives. In addition, we provide flexible, innovative and competitive benefits driven by local market practices. We also offer a range of voluntary and mandatory deferred compensation plans which present employees with the opportunity to allocate funds from base salary and/or any discretionary incentive award they may receive. This includes a plan whereby employees are given the opportunity to purchase UBS shares through monthly salary deductions.
