Our Communications and Marketing team promotes and manages the reputation of UBS Investment Bank. Working closely with colleagues across the whole of UBS globally, it also communicates corporate activity and helps market products and services to clients.

The Communications and Marketing department comprises professionals working in the following specialist areas: Advertising, Business Marketing, Corporate Responsibility, Event Marketing, Internal Communications, Media Relations, Sponsorship.

Although our teams have different roles and responsibilities, they work closely together and speak with a single voice. The department plays a vital role in the strategy of the business and is primarily responsible for the way UBS Investment Bank is perceived – both internally and externally.

Our brand is very valuable to us and we strive to ensure it is always positioned appropriately whether we are talking to the press, marketing a new financial product, sponsoring an event or organizing a roadshow. We know from research and external coverage, that we have been successful in this respect, and that UBS’s Investment Banking franchise goes from strength to strength.

Corporate Administrative Services (CAS) is a critical function of UBS Investment Bank, providing a range of essential services for management and employees to ensure that they are able to work effectively.

We manage and maintain the fabric and structure of our buildings as well as providing a full range of support services from meeting rooms to multi-media graphics through to mobile phones and mail delivery. One of our key functions is to offer a sourcing service to many internal departments, notably IT.

Whatever the offering, we work hard to understand the needs of our employees and provide them with solutions that are appropriate, efficient, reliable and cost-effective. We value innovation and pride ourselves on our high standards of service delivery, which helps UBS Investment Bank run smoothly for clients.

CAS also manages the Bank’s environmental management system outside of Switzerland, and is proud of having attained an ISO14001 accreditation.

At UBS Investment Bank, we have a firm commitment to Risk Control, which is an integral part of our business.

Good risk management and control lie at the heart of banking and risk control is an area where UBS has a reputation for excellence. Our overriding goal is not to minimize risk but rather to achieve an appropriate balance between risk and return.

At UBS, the front office is responsible for the continuous and active management of the primary risk exposures – market credit and liquidity/funding risk. Independent Risk Control functions check on these risk-taking activities to safeguard the integrity of the entire risk management process. This comprises two functions - one headed by the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and one by a Chief Credit Officer (CCO). The CCO is responsible for credit risk control including country and settlement risk, whilst the CRO is responsible for market risk control and for overseeing the completeness and effectiveness of the operational risk framework.

Both these functions focus on identifying, analyzing, assessing, measuring, controlling and reporting risk. There are also more specialist functions responsible for, amongst other things, quantitative risk measurement/model assessment, risk systems, centralized reporting and risk policy.

We take a holistic and integrated approach to risk control through close cooperation and communication between the risk control, legal, compliance, finance, planning, treasury and logistics functions, across the whole of UBS.

UBS is a premier equities house with the number 1 global secondary cash market share. Our research product is paramount as evidenced by our top 3 ranking in every region.

We meet our Equities clients’ needs through the following equity products: cash, derivatives, Equity Capital Markets, equity linked, exchange-traded-derivatives, prime brokerage, proprietary trading, and research.

Our powerful global distribution engine is second to none and our experienced team of traders work in partnership with clients to provide liquidity, speed, accuracy and discretion in executing orders in all major world markets.

We use best in class technology to empower our clients and our teams. Clients have access to superior execution strategies and direct market access globally. In addition we invest in technology for our staff so they can concentrate their efforts on value-added services rather than processing tasks.

UBS consistently brings high quality deals to market with a momentum that reaches across the regions, including the US where we are expanding our market share through the acquisition of the Charles Schwab Capital Markets business. Our investment in hedge fund services, through the ABN Amro Prime Brokerage acquisition, has exceeded expectations ranking us among the top five prime brokers in the world.

Among a clutch of recent awards, Euromoney named us ‘Best Global Equity House’ in 2004 for the second year running.

UBS Investment Bank has a robust Financial Control function that provides both the rigorous control environment and also the essential support required by our complex and dynamic global business.

The Financial Control Department at UBS Investment Bank is organised via a matrix of regional and global functions. Regional Controllers ensure the accuracy and integrity of our legal entity accounts and that all accounting, legal, tax and regulatory requirements are met. Global Business Unit Controllers are business aligned to provide product, valuation and accounting control as well as value-added management information and decision support. Taken together, they ensure that standards, policies and procedures are applied efficiently and effectively across the Investment Bank.

Specialist global functions such as Global Reporting and Capital further strengthen this matrix. These provide reporting, analysis and planning to help our businesses achieve their strategic aims whilst effectively managing risk, which together with a significant and dedicated change capability ensures that the organisation can enhance and leverage its global infrastructure platform.

The role of the Legal & Compliance (L&C) Department is to address levels of legal, liability and compliance/regulatory risk.

The Legal team supports the business activities of the Investment Bank and controls risk by advising on transaction structures and related legal, regulatory and reputational considerations and by drafting, reviewing and negotiating transactions. The Department also handles litigation, regulatory investigations and employment law matters and advises management on legal concerns associated with business structure, process, and intellectual property.

The Compliance team preserves the firm’s reputation and facilitates its business activities by providing advice on compliance with applicable laws, regulations, rules and corporate policies, and high ethical standards. UBS Investment Bank Compliance proactively supports senior management by providing advice, education and monitoring across the entire range of investment banking businesses, control and operational functions.
