UBS named Equity House of the Year for MTNs UBS has been named Equity House of the Year in the Global Medium Term Note (MTN) Awards from the industry magazine mtn-i. In addition, the UBS-led EUR3.17bn mandatory exchangeable note for the Spanish bank BBVA was hailed as one of the publication's Landmark Deals of the Year. The awards follow a stellar year for UBS's equity-linked MTN franchise, in which the firm's deal volumes totalled over US$22bn. UBS executed 1,500 issues spanning all continents and 17 different currencies.
UBS’s telecoms team wins top accolades in key industry awards UBS has been named M&A Bank of the Year 2007 at Telecom Finance
magazine's annual industry awards. The firm took the top spot for both
the total value of deals and the total number of deals, marking the first
time the same M&A advisor has won both awards. The Telecom Finance awards are based on annual league tables compiled over the previous year.
Strong performance in EuroWeek's Review of the Year Borrowers have hailed UBS as the firm that best understands their needs. The accolade comes in EuroWeek's Review of the Year Awards. In addition to placing UBS first in the 'Best Bank at Understanding Borrowers' Needs' category, borrowers voted the firm second for 'Best Provider of Impartial Advice' and third for 'Most impressive Bank in Sterling.' The firm also performed strongly in EuroWeek's Emerging Markets Awards Poll, taking top position for 'Best Lead Manager of Russia & CIS Bonds' and second position for 'Best Lead Manager of CEMEA Bonds.' UBS tops ECM league tables for 2007 UBS was the number one Equity Capital Markets House in 2007, topping the tables in the published full year reports of all three major league table producers - Bloomberg, Dealogic and Thomson - with a market share ranging between nine and ten per cent. UBS raised more proceeds for clients than any other firm and also executed the greatest number of transactions globally. The firm was also number one for global initial public offerings in all three reports. Client focus propels UBS to the top for UK M&A UBS is the UK's top M&A advisor, figures from Thomson Financial show. According to the latest fourth quarter data, in 2007 UBS advised on an announced 111 deals, worth around US$544bn. The figures show that the firm shot up the rankings from fifth to first place, achieving a market share of over 52%. UBS is the retained advisor of choice to 38 FTSE 100 and 51 FTSE 250 clients, and has been involved in a wide range of transactions in the last year, from complex cross-border deals such as Vodafone's £7bn acquisition of Hutch Essar to mid market deals such as the highly successful takeover of the technology company Xansa. Clients rank UBS as one of America's top investment banks UBS has been ranked No.4 in Institutional Investor (II) magazine's first ever survey of America's Best Investment Banks. The survey - based on the thoughts of more than 350 CEOs and CFOs at corporations and private equity firms - ranks the top underwriters and M&A advisors. As well as being ranked No.4 overall, UBS was ranked No.1 among small and mid-cap companies and No.3 in the ranking for buy-side advisory. UBS Investment Bank launches UBS Greenhouse Index UBS Investment Bank has announced the launch of the UBS Greenhouse Index (UBS-GHI), the first tradable investment benchmark tracking the greenhouse effect. It comprises a combination of weather and emissions asset classes and, as such, is the first integrated index that allows market participants to obtain an exposure to greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the weather, recognized as the greenhouse effect. UBS continues to dominate Australian M&A market UBS continues to be the leading investment banking franchise in Australia based on the value of announced M&A transactions, according to the latest fourth quarter figures from Thomson Financial. In 2007, the firm advised on 42 deals worth US$261bn, representing an overall market share of 64.4%. Notable cross-border M&A advisory roles for the Australian business in 2007 included Rinker Group's defence of Cemex's US$14bn takeover bid, Babcock & Brown and Singapore Power's US$12.55bn joint purchase of Western Australian utility Alinta Ltd, and Investa Property Group's response to Morgan Stanley Real Estate's US$5.84bn acquisition offer.
