Students gain invaluable experience at UBS Finance Academy Some 50 senior Australian public (non fee-paying) high school students gathered at the Macquarie University in Sydney recently for the 2007 UBS Finance Academy. The Academy aims to expose students to the theory and the practice of financial markets through the use of expert speakers, 'day in the life' presentations, and field visits to the firm's trading floor, the Australian Securities Exchange and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation television studios. The program also teams students with UBS investment bankers to work on real case studies, and offers ongoing mentoring upon completion. Stephen Cooper - appointed to International Accounting Standards Board Stephen Cooper, Global Head of Valuation and Accounting at UBS, has been appointed to the prestigious International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). The honor means Cooper will become one of 14 board members responsible for setting International Financial Reporting Standards. In announcing Cooper's appointment, Philip Laskawy, Chairman of the trustees, said: "We are delighted that Stephen Cooper has agreed to join the IASB. The trustees believe that the IASB will benefit from the practical experience and working knowledge of IFRSs that he will bring. The appointment of Mr Cooper reflects the trustees' desire to identify members of the investment community to serve on the IASB." The International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) Foundation, based in London, is the oversight body of the IASB. The governance of the organization rests with 22 Trustees. Six of the trustees must be selected from the Asia/Oceania region, six from Europe, six from North America, and four from any region.
UBS named Best Bank for Post-Trade Services second year running For the second consecutive year, UBS has been awarded Best Bank for Post-Trade Services to Clients in FX Week magazine's annual eFX awards. The FX Week e-FX awards celebrate best practice and innovation in the forex market. The publication noted that UBS was given the award for post-trade services because it "continued to demonstrate the importance of providing a full service to clients by providing a full array of post-trade services and tools". UBS's submission covered the FX Prime Brokerage platform, FX Reporting, UBS KeyLink and the CLS Third-Party Service, as well as the UBS Post-Trade Services Portal. UBS shines at Euromoney's 2007 Awards for Excellence UBS has received a host of accolades in Euromoney's Awards for Excellence 2007. For the first time, UBS was named ‘Best Global Emerging Market Investment Bank', a major achievement and recognition of UBS's successful strategy and investment in the emerging markets. According to Euromoney, "UBS is already the world's leading wealth manager; now it can claim to be the best investment bank, at least in the emerging markets. Last year the Swiss firm stole a march on its rivals with two high-profile moves in Brazil and China," referring to the successful acquisitions of Banco Pactual and Beijing Securities. The full list of awards received by the firm are: Best Emerging Market Investment Bank - Global Award UBS named a 'Modern Great' for currency derivatives in special Risk awards UBS has been named as the 'Modern Great' in Currency Derivatives by Risk as the magazine celebrated its 20th anniversary. The 'Risk 20 Awards' recognize institutions that have helped drive the development of the derivatives market over the past 20 years. The publication credited UBS's success in the currency markets to the firm's "exploitation of electronic trading technology," saying: "UBS responded to the declining margins and increasing commoditization of the foreign exchange markets by leading the charge into electronic trading." UBS on top in European M&A UBS has been ranked No.1 in European M&A by announced volume for the first half of 2007, according to Dealogic, having so far this year undertaken 120 deals worth US$404.2bn in Europe. In addition, UBS was ranked No.1 in the UK with 54 deals worth US$210bn. UBS - Commodity Derivatives House of the Year UBS has been named Commodity Derivatives House of the Year by Futures and Options World (FOW), the leading publication devoted to the exchange traded derivatives industry. The award recognizes the efforts of the UBS sales force and the huge contribution of our operational and technical support staff to our clients. UBS to become founding corporate partner of MLab at London Business School The Management Innovation Lab (MLab) at London Business School, today announced UBS as its first corporate founding partner. The pioneering partnership will see UBS work with the MLab's internationally renowned faculty and staff to generate management innovations relevant to its organizational goals. During his keynote address to the London Business School Global Leadership Summit taking place today Professor Hamel, ‘the world's leading expert on business strategy' (Fortune 2006), said of the partnership: “In becoming the first corporate founding partner of the MLab, UBS demonstrates it's commitment to management innovation, and we very much look forward to working with them.” See press release. UBS achieves top two ranking in Institutional Investor's 2007 All-Asia Research Team survey UBS maintained its impressive positioning in Institutional Investor's 2007 All-Asia (Asia and Australia ex Japan) Research survey, ranking second equal. It's the seventh year running that UBS has been able to claim a top-two status in the financial publication's highly respected poll, being successfully ranked this year in 24 out of 30 categories. The poll was conducted between December 2006 and February 2007. Some 512 fund management groups voted, representing an increase of more than 19% on last year.
